FRIENDSHIP GAMES

"Friendship Games began in 1985 and features over 40 Pilipino American Student organizations from college campuses representing California, Nevada and Arizona that participate in a day of friendly but competitive picnic games, performances and to celebrate “S.P.U.F” – Spirit, Pride, Unity, and Friendship. Schools."

And just like that, Friendship Games is over. After months of working with my co-Friendship Games coordinator, Danielle, I can definitely say all the time dedicated to this event was worth it. We came to Fullerton hoping for a weekend filled of new and re-kindled friendships and unity. We got that and so much more.

We came out there and represented UC San Diego Kaibigang Pilipin@ hard. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what the rankings are. What matters the most are the memories that came out of it. However, we pulled through. Our goal for ourselves this year was to place in the Top 15. This year, we can out of Friendship Games ranking 14th out of the 41 schools that competed. I am beyond proud of the hype and spirit that happened that day.

Friendship Games took half a year to plan. Danielle and I had our first 1:1 in May, having the most difficult time trying to figure what the heck our theme was going to be. We spent several google hangouts talking about SPUF and how excited we were about making props. We found ourselves finishing up all the work and school didn't even start.

Once school came around, it was time to get the bar rolling. We both committed so much time into making sure Friendship Games was going to be an amazing one. We spent nights crying and simping over how tired and drained we were, but how excited we were to finally get to the big day. Danielle found herself making props instead of studying. I remember putting off papers to work on carpool rides and selling tickets. Friendship Games became life.

There are so many people I would like to thank that helped us make this weekend possible. <3
